(MPS) Literally in the last minute, Heinrich Hermann Engemann (Bissendorf) arrived at the FEI European Jumping Championship in Mannheim on Tuesday. After Team Harmony Coup de Coeur, the horse of the German alternative rider Rene Tebbel (Emsbüren), had not been able to participate due to health reasons, Engeman was nominated as the fifth rider and received the order to go from Dublin to the grid city.
And with his victory in the Großer Preis der Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar on Saturday afternoon, the 48-year-old made sure, that this trip and the dispensation with his holidays, planned for this week, were worthwhile. In front of 8.000 spectators in the MVV riding stadium, Engemann and Aboyeur W, the 14-year old Westfalian gelding had the fastest clear round and was remunerated with 30.000 Euro of the total prize-money of 100.000 Euro. He was exactly six seconds faster than Marco Kutscher, who is the “current” European Champion for one more day and was the only other rider who went clear with Cornet Obolensky in the jump-off (54,29 seconds). Jeroen Dubbeldam (Netherlands), the fledging European Team Champions on BMC Pavarottie (4/46,08) ended up in the third position. “I am really happy that everything went so well. Aboyeur was in good shape last week and, actually, I thought to give him a little rest this week – until I got the message that Rene cannot participate”, said the beaming winner. Engemann added that his gelding had already performed very well in the first round and that he had really concentrated on winning this jump-off. And now, I am really happy that everything worked out well”. Peter Hofmann, the President of the Reiter-Verein Mannheim and the EC organizing committee, expressed his thanks to the Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar, especially to Mr. Prof. Dr. Klaus E. Heinrich: “I am really pleased that we have achieved to elate the Metropolregion for this sport”.
